How to take a Hong Kong passport photo at home

Digital submissions through the Immigration Department website or mobile app still face a final manual check, so get the framing and background right the first time.

1

Plain white background

Face a window against a clean white wall, about 0.5–1 m away, so there is no shadow behind your head and no reflection on your face.

2

Full face, hair clear of the eyes

Camera at eye level, head centred, neutral expression. Keep hair and fringe away from the eyes and eyebrows.

3

Export at 40 × 50 mm

Upload to IDPhotoWork — we produce the 40 × 50 mm crop with chin-to-crown at 32–36 mm, and export a JPEG that fits the 5 MB upload limit.
